Moons In Retrograde

Moons In Retrograde is a dark alternative, pop-noir project unfolding at the liminal spaces of sound, shadow, and emotional residue.

Created by Kara Kuckoo, the project draws from trip-hop, electronic noir, and avant-goth atmospheres to explore buried emotions, inner fracture, and transformation.

Influenced by Kara’s background in performance and installation art, Moons In Retrograde exists as an obscure dream world rather than a fixed genre. Sound, image, and embodiment function together, creating immersive audiovisual works that blur the boundaries between music, performance, and visual art.

Her previous projects include the gothic rock band In Winter (Cleveland, Ohio) and the trip-hop duo Azure Noir (Las Vegas). Originally from the United States, Kara is now based in Northern Germany.

Moons In Retrograde engages with duality — light and dark, beauty and decay, presence and absence — not as opposing forces, but as coexisting states. Through layered vocals, dreamlike visuals, and lyrical decay poetry, the project reflects on the darker currents of human experience — not to sensationalize them, but to sit with them, illuminate them, and allow them to breathe.
